I had so many problems and so much trouble with my connection to Earthlink, I was on the phone with them all the time. They told me to do this, to do that, to change my settings, and nothing helped. Then about a month ago, I decided that since it could't get any worse, I download an updated bunch of HCF modem driver files. Now all of my problems practically disappeared, I don't lose the connection after about 5 minutes and it is great. I wonder why the technicians at Earthlink, whose time I was taking up, never told me to do that. As a computer amateur, I would never have had the guts to upgrade this myself if it were not for your extremely good site, which helped me getting it done. Thanks to all you guys!

As a consequence of the knowledge gained from your excellent efforts,I now connect at an average 50 Kbs and download at (for me) the blistering speed of 6-8 Kpbs. In dealing with my ISP I was directed to your site to download new drivers for my LT modem. After intit strings and a lot of playing around, the modem achived high connect speeds and I thought all was well. I returned to your site to peruse other information, I found an article on throughput vs connect speed. This got me thinking, so I called up sysmon and monitored my throughput. It was lame to say the least. I installed a cable modem, and a lan and now I have throughput. It was your site and information which for the first time allowed me to see what really goes on. I have my internet service thru Juno. It is a good service and their technical support is very helpful, but connection speed has been a problem (33,600) and downloads have been erratic. I first used your site to update my Win LT modem driver which grately improved speed, but erratic downloads were still a problem. After calling Juno I was given an extra setting for my modem of s38=0-v90=0. This helped the erratic download problem but killed the improved speed of the driver. By going back to your site I was able to figure out what had been put into my computer and how to adjust it. I soon discover that an extra setting of s38=0-v90=1 both solved the erratic download problem while improving speed. Juno had diabled both Kflex and V.90, when only Kflex seems to be the problem. I now get speeds of 49,333 to 50,666 and download is much smoother. Thanks!!!

I been using the lucent or any brand name modem (with the lucent chipset onboard) they are one heck of a good modem. atleast they can take line noise and keep on a going. UNLIKE THE EIGERCOM modem (100% junk) including motorola! and this site helps to get the most out of the modem with the lucent chipset onboard! SO TRASH CAN THOSE EIGERCOM modems and get a LUCENT!!

Brilliant !! Im fairly new to computers and although I knew my Conexant 56Soft was useless, I was scared to try a new driver in case i messed things up even more. However, got to the stage where I was continuously being cut-off, and could not even open 2 windows at once. Decided to risk the download, and if it went wrong, was going to throw the modem away and replace it. (yes, I was desperate !!) Used this site to find w.w.w.hightech.com......zip download took 1 second ?????.....installed took 5 seconds......and WOW !!!!! Now connecting at 45333, and to put it to the test have 6 windows open and using !!! Cant believe it !!! www no longer means world wide wait. Thanks guys.....bloody marvellous !!

Hi there! I was wondering if someone could help me. I bought myself a USR 56K v.90 with x2 technology modem model 5686 3 months ago and I can't get it to work. It is frustrating. I think it may be the driver because Windows 98 keeps installing its own driver. So, I've tried relentlessly to install the driver from the installation cd that came with the modem, and it appears as though the cd was improperl burned, in turn, enabling windows to install its own driver. The problem is, my phone line only dials pulse, but the windows driver only allows tone. USR tried to help but thety weren't much help. They insist that it is a software problem which I am sure it isn't. So if anyone does have this modem, or knows a way to manipulate the modem driver to dial pulse, I would greatly appreciate a response.

Hi, great site. I have a USR 56k Fax INT modem. I need an init string to speed up my connection. Its only connecting at 26400 it might be the phone lines but It was connecting at 28800. These are the options it says i can do V32bis,V.80,V.34+,x2,V.90 I have no idea if that helps or not. ---this was a second feedback letter as a follow up to a previous feedback sent the day before--- I sent you feedback earlier about installing a Conexant chipset modem (HSP) on Win2000 Professional. This is the follow up. After my failures yesterday, I gave up and went out to buy a Win2K (or WinNT) compatible modem. Unfortuantely, though 'fortunately' is the correct term, the only stores with modems that might work were out of stock. So, I was going to wait. In the mean time, I went about going ahead and tweaking my new Win2K configuration. Low and behond, I found an error in the "PCI Simple Communication Device" listed in the device drivers. It was listed uner "Other Devices", so I had figured that it was some protocal device for communicating with older PCI cards. Turns out that it was actually the modem that it had detected. So, here's a solution for those who get this and can't get the device to install. I downloaded a LOT of conexant drivers. I actually had 6 different driver sets. I simply told it to update the PCI Simple Communication Device with the best driver, and it found one of the conexant drivers. It even installed on the correct com (which it was failing to do earlier, becuase a Com 3 wasn't listed). Here are some things that may have effected this working. #1 - I changed all PCI slot masters off in the BIOS, except for slot 1. The modem is in slot three (meaning no master). #2 - I used X-Setup (a Win95/98/NT/2K tweaking program) to change the COM3 speed to "boost". #3 - This didn't work, but may have effected the eventual outcome. I removed the modem, and booted, then rebooted with it back in to try to "jump start" the device identification. This didn't work, but may have allocated the "invisible com3" in the faulty device. Once the modem was correctly identified with the new drivers, a lot of other device errors magically dissappeared. It also found the sound device in the modem, though with errors. I simple updated those drivers as well, and now they are working. I can't tell you which driver set worked, because they were all basically named the same. However, I'm betting that it was the HP set, since they were the drivers specifically designed for my system model (Pavilian 9694C), named "Chameleon" under the Win2K device updates. I'd like to thank you for providing such in depth discussions on the subject and links which I found absolutely nowhere else. Without your site, I'd have wasted money I didn't have to, and I'd still have problems. I just hope my experience can help others out there who run into the PCI Simple Comm. Dev. problem.

I tried to connect two modems using multilink, they are not same brand, but both are 56k. When I tried to connect to the second line, win98 SE hangs or resets itself. Any clue will be welcome. Thanks

My K56 HSP modem just stops loading pages. It is still connected but I either get DNS Error or Server Not Found. The icon that is two monitor screens in my start tray is suppose to always stay on but it goes off after flashing all the time. I'm desperate, please, please help me to solve this problem. Thanks: I've been using the internet for 5 years now and your site has got to be the most usefull and informative I have run across. It has been a life saver for me. The computer I am using now started out as a Unicent AMD K6-2 running at 300 Mhz(It is now a Pentium III at 700 Mhz). I am preparing to buy a third (3rd.) Compaq Desktop...i was not aware of the LT- Lucent WinModem "JINX" until i bought the Presario #5465 in December 1999... Everything about it is great except software bundle and MODEM...i installed 5.66 drivers and it speeded up to 35 to 37Kbps instead of 18 to 22Kbps...the resource drain when downloading cut in half reducing freeze-ups...I wanted to replace the modem with a non-Lucent WinModem...CNET Computers.com evaluated and highly reccomended the "ZOOM Technologies 56K DualMode V.90 K56Flex internal Voice/Fax Modem (Editors Choice) for only $109-$127.00...i found it on sale for $79.95 and bought...Guess What, right in the middle of the board is a 1 1/2"sq chip with "LUCENT" on it...WHAT NOW???? I read the comments on Worldspy Free ISP, and have a tip for y'all. If you can just once get the Worldspy Java Applet to run and activate your account, you can uninstall the whole Worldspy program and just log on using MS DUN like this: User = (yourusername)@microportal.com Password= (your access code or PIN) Phone Number= (whatever local dialup you choose) If it doesn't work, you probably have your password and access code mixed up, use the other one and try again. Worldspy will create a connection in My Computer/Dialup Networking for itself called Vivilink, just modify that connection as per above and create a shortcut to your desktop. Have fun with your new high speed totally free, non-computer-slowing, spy-free ISP... You're welcome, btw

You can check to see if your modem is indeed a HSP in Hypertrm by typing in the command AT+GMM If this returns an error the modem is not a HSP is it returns a response then it IS a HSP modem. Kindest Regards Eddie

i LOVE this website. I work for a major ISP (I could be fired if i say whom) and we use this site all the time for helping people understand that the ISP's want you to connect at 56k but often the hardware and line vendors don't. one of my favorite things is to show people who 'just got' their dell/gateway wintel computer and it has drivers that are a year old for the rockwell hcf internet killer. Kudos and more kudos for this site. I have a Compaq 1277 notebook with an Lt Winmodem. It shipes with an old firmware version. After installing the 5.75 upgrade with no problems whatsoever, I went from trying to connect repeatedly for about 20 times and maybe connecting at 37,333 to connecting between 49,333 to 50,666 and connecting every time. I have reccamended this site to those with Lucent Modems as well with great results on their end as well. BRAVO!

Dear Sirs, I previously informed you of my "satisfactory" experiance with a CREATIVE LABS "DSI" (Digicom Systems Inc.) V90 Modem. Model # DI 3635. It connected OK at 40 to 44k. The chip inside was labeled with the Creative Labs logo. I think it may be the ESS chip. I bought and tested another "CHEAP" modem (less than $5 after rebates) This one is a "SMARTLINK" V90 by "ARCHTEK". It does have the ESS chip. This modem worked OK using the DSI driver supplied with the Digicom Creative Labs modem. This leads me to believe that the DSI modem uses the ESS chip. Both modems equal my USR, Viking, and Shark higher priced modems. They both are much better than the PC-TEL and Rockwell chip modems I have tested. ie Not necessary to put speed limiting commands into the string and the speeds are higher. (about 37k max on PC-Tel / Rockwell) FYI I use a 300a Celeron overclocked to 450mhz with a 100mhz front side bus, ABIT BX6 Rev2 motherboard. What do you think about all of this?? Hank

The "HP Riptide Info" document dated 29-Mar-00 is excellent! It's the first reliable document I've come across that deals with the modem/audio problem. I have an HP Pavilion 6553 with the Riptide PCI Modem/Audio card. Modem works okay, but doesn't have it's own speaker. This PC model does not come with an internal PC speaker either, so I never hear the popular "handshake" sound when the modem connects. I can hear the music when I play CD's in the CD ROM, but NO sound files (*.wav, for example) are ever heard! This is what I'm trying: I reformatted the hard drive and am installing my own (retail) Windows 98 2nd Ed. I'll play around with various drivers (rippcna.exe, for example) to see if I can get it to work in this non-HP OS. HP has tailored their own Windows 98 - I want to know if their flavor of Win98 is having any influence on the audio properties (they bundled a cheesey "media rack" by Willow Pond in their version). I'll get back to you with the results.

I too have the conexant soft 56k modem. Mush is a better word. It will not connect to anything that is v.90. I tried the download on HP site and it totally crashed the thing. HP tech support thought I had two heads. I cannot believe they are not knee deep in tech help calls over this disaster! I get your 56K newsletter and was going to tell you about the Hewlett Packard driver upgrade and came here and you knew more than I did so great job! I've got the Rockwell/Connectext Riptide HCF junkpile modem/audio card thingy! This is a terrific site! I thank the authors for creating it and my local ISP (Imagen Communications Inc.) for turning me onto it. Since upgrading my generic LT winmodem-model Retail Plus (no-name) brand's firmware software here using your provided files (I upgraded from v.5.07 to v.5.66), my 'crap-brand' modem now regularly runs at 50,666 Kbps to 52,000 per session. I now think the $40 bucks (Can.) I spent on my modem (after rebate) was the best I ever spent! Happy Highways.

I use both a LT winmodem and a USRobotics ext sportster in two machines, the USR in the faster machine (PIII450), and I get much better pings with the LT winmodem (ave 50 less). I soved the problem of freezing up and getting disconnected during gameplay by limiting the down load to 31.2k and 28k (USR and LT respectively), don't be afraid to try this, it really works.

Hello there! I just wanted to add that I totally have no problems with "V.unreliable"... It works just fine and from here I sometimes even get V.90-connects over some oversea-lines!! It's just 44000 bits/sec but I get about 4.2 KB/sec even then! And with domestic calls - no problem at all. So I think your phonelines or switchboards are just too bad ;) KiRK

Hi I have a new dishplayer from dish network. It has webtv in it that has an X2 modem in it. I had it enabled, and started an ISP account that supported an X2 connection. Unfortunately, I have NOT seen connection speeds faster than 33.6 kbps. As well-"that means a LOWER speed connection with a handshake that lasts over 60 seconds before carrier unless you DISABLE x2." My LT modem started out working great. I was connecting at 55+ bps and everything was working well. Then connection times began to increase and it took some time to get going after connection was successful. This is where I am now. I'm using a HSP56 Micromodem which keep dropping out. The modem indicates it's connected (ie status is connected) but you can't get any pages to load. Error "Server not found or DNS error". Only a redial fixes it. Don't know if the info here will fix it yet but still a great effort to put the site together. Thanks

Thank you for this info. I have two modems, the oldest one connects at a lower speed but I get better perfomance than the new 56kv.everything. I tried to get the answer from the 3com/USR sites and all they are interested in is selling you a new modem (Gaming Modem they call it) Thanks for the info you just saved me a few dollars.

I feel I should tell you this statement--If he's going to give you the new line by adding 'pair gain' - a box that will make your existing 2 wire-line into two 2-wire lines - cancel the order (unless you are willing to have 2 lines neither of which will get more than 26.4k connects)!--is not entirely right. The 'pair gain' is not installed at your house. It is for an entire neighborhood. Also there are different types of 'pair gains' some of which will allow connection speeds of 40k and higher. There is a box like you are referring to, but it's not called-atleast by my telco-a 'pair gain'. Also it's usually only used when there are no other facilities available.

I would appreciate if someone can give me a tip where I could find information about a Lucent V90+DSL Modem (1.5Mb high speed modem). For some reason I am having problems with this modem which normally should be faster than the 33Kb UsRobotics. Unfortunately it is not the case it is even slower than a 14.4Kb. This modem is an internal modem installed on a Presario 5717 Compaq 450Mhz Pentium III. Could it be the driver (Ltmodem.vxd 2.83 version available) or anything else? The first time I visited this website, I knew that I could find what I was looking for...firmware, information about my modem and more. I didn't have any problems with my modem, but I reported that my performance were slow, but it was my ISP, Earthlink that merged with MindSpring. Now Earthlink is very well performing for me. Hello, I have a new G4Mac but it doesn't connect to the Internet w/ it's original Modem script of: PowerMac G3 Internal 56, only with PowerMac Int. 56 (v 34 only) -at of course a slower speed. Apple said it's because my server- Mindspring has a different Modem script themselves. Mindspring says: We do not have 56k flex pops and it sounds like they (Apple) need to give you a script that disables kflex, but allows you to use v90.

Do You know where I can get a Modem script that disables kflex and allows me to use v.90 ??? Please let me know ASAP ! You the man. i work for a mjor ISP IBM and we tell our customer that call in the exact info that you have on your page except being as we are IBM we can not offically "support" other comapny products and computer even when a customer calls in and using an IBM Aptiva we transfered to the Aptiva department which is in Dublin, Ireland I myself use a Ltwin modem bought last december on a HP Pavilion and since i work there knew all about the apollo/mars chipset and the like. i have had no problem since i updated to to 5.18 and have downloaded 5.23 a few months ago have it on a floppy but have not used it no need i get 49333 which is pretty good considering where i live. But when the average 'joe' calls in and his brand new 1000 dollar computer wont connect and it is 'our fault' because AOL works they dont understand the basic technology with the flex, X2, and one manufacturer versus another We use 3com modem and the vast majority of the people don't know what a modem driver is. their thinking is i paid for a computer MAKE IT WORK IT IS YOU FAULT

I will be suggesting your site to everybody i know or calls in with the ltwin problem the same goes for the rockwell HFC modem i just dont have one of those for personal experinces but it is the same thing. my biggest Gripe is they say ' It was working yesterday' my answer well sir/mam you cars tire/battery/aternator was working yesterday but now it is not. thanks agin for the site by the way i downloaded 5.54 and will give it a go

After updating my PCI Rockwell HCF v122 driver to the latest Conexant HCF 161 from Zoltix my Generic Non-branded Crud Win(ge)modem has modestly boosted from 40kb to 45kb but with a stabler connection. I haven't messed about with any settings yet though! Anybody got any recommendations?

Anyway, apart from the boost to my modem, your site and its links has cleared up a lot of things about Winmodems and the like. I now know that my PCI modem is useless for BeOS and the fab QNX 1.44 OS+Browser demodisk. Better save some pennies for a proper one!!!

Richard from this site forwarded my comments to Lucent, and Ed from Lucent responded that they withdrew Multilink support in the latest drivers, 5.54. He said that Multilink support was never a design objective, and someone was having problems with applications in a multi-LTWinmodem environment, so they decided to drop the support. 5.53 drivers will work fine for Multilink.

First, let me say for the record that I think that Lucent Winmodems are extremely reliable, and the most cost-efficient modems available. My connect rate is ALWAYS 53.333 (using 2 LT modems my total rate is 106.666). Geez, you can get these modems for less than 20 bucks! Nothing comes close in cost/performance, IMHO.

I have a problem with the latest firmware, 5.54. I've always used your site to upgrade my firmware with absolutely no problems. The issue here is that I use 2 Lucent Winmodems in a "Multilink" setup that doubles my connect speed to my ISP. The first modem will dial and connect, then after logging in the second modem dials/connects. The problem is with firmware 5.54, the Multilink option does not work correctly. It dials the first modem, then after connecting, dials the first modem again (quickly hangs up and redials the first modem). Win98 SE shows the first modem still connected while redialing, then shows a total connect speed of 106,666 after the first modem hangs up and redials. I can't do any surfing, though, as no DNS searches work, etc. So, in other words, with firmware 5.54, my second Lucent modem never dials as it should in Multilink. For some reason --and even though Multilink is directing the software to the second modem-- DUN dials up the first modem again. Reverting to firmware 5.53 solves the problem, so it definitely seems to be a driver issue with 5.54.

I've tried 3 different modems, USRobotics 56K upgrade with v.90, Encore 56K/X2 Upgraded to v.90 (x2 dropped after 1.24 firmware), and LT Modem (upgraded with modem554.exe). The only modem that won't connect v.90 is the Lucent Technologies Modem, while the USR and Encore does connect v.90 (s38 = 0, s37 = 14 was also tried with no luck.) I believe there is still problems with the Lucent Tech. code (just about the same as encores past codes which didn't work). This site is great...maybe as time goes on and with more complaints on the Lucent Win modem (PCI) that eventually it will work!!!!

QUESTION ABOUT ALL MODEMS

The FCC is dealing with the users of phone numbers that is consuming all the phone numbers. Computer Modems have been identified as a major contributor to causing all the new area codes that people do not like.

With FCC about to order all Computer Modems to begin using hexadecimal phone numbers for dial up access, the question is what modems will dial the new numbers, like 3F8-CB8Ř?

All control programs will need to be changed to allow for the input of the full number set: (are not VANITY NUMBERS) Ř(true zero),1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C,D,E,F. All modems can now dial the decimal number set: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0 today.

Some modems can be modified with a change in or a update of FIRM WARE, but other than that, they will or will not dial hex numbers depending on how they are wired!

I have experimented and found some will dial specific hex digits, some brands will not dial hex at all, and so on.

If a modem can not dial hex, it will cost the consumer, since a surcharge on decimal phone numbers will apply, but a discount can be had for using hexadecimal phone numbers for computer access.

Please do publish this and ask for results from users.

What do companies intend to do to up grade to full hexadecimal, or HEX READY modems? All the chips are Hex Ready.

After reading your page about "ROCKWELL/CONEXANT" MODEMS (HCF), I understand why I am so angry and frustrated with this modem (winmodem). I purchased a new Compaq computer 3 weeks ago and have been through H--L trying to get the modem to work. It keeps dropping our internet connection immediately after the initial connect. I spent several HOURS on the phone with "Technical Support". What a waste of time. I finally demanded something be done to get this working, as I bring work home from the office and need to connect to the internet (e-mail, etc.). Now I am waiting (what else is new) for a technician to call, when he has the time, to scedule a "home visit" to see if he can fix this modem. I was told it would probably be 5 to 7 days before we scheduled the appoinment and he could be here. (A total of 4 1/2 weeks now with no internet on this NEW COMPUTER.) I wish I had read your page before I made the purchase, but sadly, I went looking for help after the fact. I am sorry I bought this computer and WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE ELSE until the modem has been improved or replaced with an actual modem. If I didn't have this laptop, I'd be hurting as regards my job. Trouble is, my whole family has been using it also, since the desktop model is "out of service". I hope this informaion and warning is helpful to others. Sure wish I knew all this before. Maybe I'll be internet ready within the next week, or 4 weeks ...... Oh well.

Excellent Website. Found it through Netscape Netsearch. I was having serious connection probs with mt LT modem after switching to a new ISP. At least I can get a 44K Connect now after using your latest upgrade. It would take a half hour of continous dialing to get any connection. I'm trying to find some solution to my problems with Lucent Tech Win Modems and Windows NT. Thats why I came to the site.

I run Windows NT 4.0 SP5 on a dual P-II 333 system. Have the latest 5.53 driver for the LT. I cannot get connections for more than one or 2 minutes. The modem simply disconnects. The disconnect reason given by the diagnostics is reason 1, remote disconnection. However, if I boot in single processor mode, the modem works just fine. I'm absolutely convinced its a driver problem, because I write NT device drivers for a living, and my tools point right at ltmodem.sys when I get the blue screen of death. Oh, did I mention the blue screen of death? Yep, I get them sometimes running dual processors and dialing up through the modem.

What's a poor hacker to do? Any pointers to info about the LT and NT dual processors?

Til I found this site I hadn't had any luck in getting over 26.4. Now I'm getting 115.2 with the help of a dialing string I got from Worldnet techical help. I don't see how any modem out there can be sold as a 56k modem when there is absolutely NO Guarantee it will do anything faster than A V.34 modem (28.8kb\s). Why in the hell would anybody spend an extra $40-$70 dollars for a 56K modem when you can buy V.34+ or V.34 modem that will connect at the exact same rate. I don't see any Disclamer stating the "FACT" that 56K V.90 Will Not work on all phone lines (33.6 and up), When most phone lines will only do Less than 31.2kb/s. Well I Guess Bell-South does'nt give a sh_t anyway, at least not here in Daytona Beach,FL. However If you go about 5 to 7 miles north of here into the City of Ormond Beach, which is more of a Upper Class Communinty with more Expencive Homes, 56K connections Will Happen. Again BELLSOUTH Has a priorty to UPPER CLASS COMMUNITY'S. "MONEY-MONEY-MONEY" The same goes For ADSL, IT's not available to ME here in Daytona Beach but I Bet if lived in ORMOND BEACH it Would BE. "Promises-Promises" Hell even right now as I speak, PC's are being sold in this town with DSL Modems in them and they are not going to get anything faster than 28.8kb/s. Again how are these MODEMS allowed to be sold when they are Lemmon's in Daytona Beach,FL. Some say it is because Daytona Beach is such a small town, that Bellsouth Does'nt see it to be as important as other City's Such as Orlando or Jacksonville. That is why Daytona will remain a Repressed city for Business for a long time. Last, If you have CHOICE in your area for Local Service, You might be able to find a Phone Company that Gives a Sh_t about Customer Service, and NOT JUST ABOUT MONEY. HELP! I have a USR/3Com 56k winmodem. Unable to obtain any more than 26.4 connection rates. Here is what I have done in troubleshooting the problem (in order): 1. Ensured that I had the v.90 version 2. checked settings/modem/Win98 settings to modem. Double checked with my ISP on settings... Set at the 115200 rate. 3. Ran a direct line to the block outside my house to the modem, trying to find out if there was any internal EMI sources (110v, phone transformers, bleedovers, etc) 4. Checked with my ISP 5. Asked ALL Internet neighbors in my area what their connection rate was....26.4 was the answer. No more, no less. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? 6. Called Bell Atlantic, our phone provider, to find out if: there was any boosters or filters to/from our neighborhood. To see if they can connect a repeater to our lines (this might actually improve connection rates) 7. Swapped out modems to make sure, even after finding out meighbors connect at the SAME rate. 8. Personally investigated the possibility that there is a digital to analog then back-to-digital thing going on with Bell Atlantic. Tech there ensures me that this is not happening.

I'm at a loss here. Why are we all connecting at a mere 26.4? This is EVERY neighbor that connects. The majority of us use VAIX.NET (a very reliable provider), some are using CFW, AOL, and other providers. So, we've ruled the ISP being at fault out. If you happen to have something I have NOT tried, please, let me know!

BTW, GREAT website, chock full of information. Your site has actually helped me in troubleshooting some real time, long-haul Navy communications circuit problems when dealing with modems! THANKS AGAIN!!

We have a non microsoft browser and a non aol provider and it seems like every time we add a new game or piece of hardware, that microsoft or aol inserted something that modified our startup or put something in front of some important file! Can't we just drive the only good Desoto that came off the line without people messing with us? Many thanks for a great site! Using the information from the site I have been able to download drivers and upgrade both a Compaq Presario 1235 Laptop and an HP Pavillion 8250. The former is used in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and the upgrade raised connection speeds from 28,000-33,000 (+/-) bps to consistent 45,333 and 46,666 bps. The H.P. is used in Northern California, and rates have gone from 33,600 to consistent 46,666 bps. Keep up the great work!

I had a real problem after I did a clean install of windows 98 on my Presario. It wouldn't reconise the modem. Couldn't get the drivers off the cd that came with the compaq. I downloaded the LT driver from your site with another machine. problem now solved. Connects at 46666 or 49333 everytime. PS the clean instal also gave me about an extra 100 mb of disk space, don't know what they put on it at the factory, but it hasn't been missed

I just found your site and do not understand a lot of the technical jargon. My modem is a HSP K56 Flex.pnp and I have no idea who/what company manufactured this unit. I dcan't get MSn to open 75% of the time and was told by tech staff (MSN) that I need a V90 to be sucessful al the time. I need to know can it abe upgraded to be V90 (compatable ?)
